Jack (Jackie Chan) is an archeologist who digs into China's past to bring to the present her rich heritage, folklore and ancient secrets. He does this in collaboration with his friend and partner, William (Tony Leung Ka Fai) who's more interested in the scientific aspects of the project, particularly, the ancient knowledge of longevity and anti-gravity. But Jackie begins to dream and imagine the tragic lost lore story of General Meng-Yi and concubine Li (Hee-seon Kim) who lived and loved during the reign of Emperor Huang Ti, 2000 years ago. Two parallel stories, present and ancient, develop as Jack unearths bits and pieces of what happened to the two lovers. But the more he learns and gazes at the beautiful face of concubine Li, the deeper, Jack falls in love with her. Jack begins to wonder if he is the reincarnation of the general and if she is also reincarnated and waiting for him to return to her as the myth foretells. Finally, Jack discovers a cave where the past and the present meet and the story is resolved.
